About GCE
It all began in 2011 with the NYC Marathon and a fundraiser for Multiple Myeloma, a cancer with which my sister Lisa was afflicted. To be honest, running a few miles was fine but long distance not so much. Yet I was motivated by the cause. Months after completing NYC, fundraising to run the London Marathon came into focus. That sounded interesting but I had thought I was a one and doner. Meanwhile, there was Lisa cheering me on, so of course I would go on to run London. I have since completed 5 marathons and 9 ultramarathons. I can now say without a doubt that running has changed my life. Looking back on all these races, the ones that included fundraising added an extra dose of meaning and satisfaction.
Twelve years ago, Godi Godar founded GCE to fulfill his mother’s wish for him to help his people. Godi has since secured the land rights to 1.2 million acres of endangered rainforest. Following this success, Godi and GCE have embraced a new challenge to support global climate stability by empowering Congolese communities to develop forest-friendly, sustainable livelihoods, to secure safe drinking water and to protect endangered wildlife.
