"Floating", Acrylic, 8"x 10" by Anne M-L
As a 64 year old grandmother, I am beginning to bring into focus the inevitable, I’ve reached my fourth quarter and I’m working on my end game. This realization can (A) Send me packing or (B) Kick me into gear. Since my fellow Boomers and I love options, let’s explore them. (A), Send me packing, would be an attractive choice if it meant taking a trip to the Italian coast but my particular euphemism has a less appealing ending. And since I’d like to get to Sardinia one day, let’s go with (B) Kick me into gear. Imagine sitting on a comfy couch by the fireplace with a cat on our lap. The fire is dying down, but the old clock on the wall ticks on. So, we find our own spark, we slowly rise, blow on the embers, walk to the telephone (note retro concept), and give our good friend “Will Power” a call. We’ll enjoy his company, and he’ll keep us going when the going gets tough. Oh, and don’t forget to ask lovely Grace to come along, too. She’ll remind us that Still Standing counts for a lot.
So, life goes on as we try to keep pace with the rhythms of life - laundry, wash dishes, exercise, work, help others, watch a little Netflix and call it a day. And then one morning, as we’re vacuuming the living room, our thoughts begin to organize themselves around something new. Was it an article or a conversation overheard? Like a crack in the cave, pouring a thin line of light, it calls us. Just a whisper, at first. And then, the light spreads and fully illuminates an idea. Here’s what becomes clear… it’s not too late. Just like Goethe says, begin it and Providence moves too. What wild spirit is left in us, not to tame but to use as fuel, to motivate, to move, to create, to make some kind of a tiny difference. Who knows what butterfly might be fluttering by at that moment, rippling the wind?
